AIG/LINCOLN SCOOPS TOP AWARDS AT INAUGURAL

GALA DINNER & CEREMONY

 

American owned property developer AIG/Lincoln Eastern Europe picked up four awards, including the top honours of two of the four Grand Awards on offer, at the prestigious new Central & Eastern European Real Estate Quality Awards event on Thursday 22^nd January [SELECTED PHOTOS & FULL LIST OF WINNERS BELOW].

 

The champagne flowed as a full house of nearly 300 senior real estate industry executives were treated to a five star gala reception, four course dinner and Oscar-style awards ceremony at the luxurious new InterContinental Hotel in the heart of Warsaw. A total of 15 awards were presented to real estate projects, companies and individual professionals for outstanding achievement and industry contribution during 2003. The venue itself scooped the award for the CEE Commercial Development of the Year from a short-list of four new luxury hotels that opened their doors in 2003, including Americka Park and Hotel Josef in Prague as well as the Hotel Rialto in Warsaw, in a category that was also open to leisure centres, clubs, restaurants and fitness facilities.

winning four awards including two of the coveted Grand Awards for CEE Outstanding Development of the Year

and CEE Outstanding real Estate Company of the Year.

 

The star turn of the night was Eugene Golub, founder and chairman of Chicago based real estate company Golub & Company. Mr Golub attended the ceremony to accept the inaugural CEE Lifetime Achievement Grand Award, given by the organisers in recognition his pioneering work in private real estate investment and development in the former Eastern Bloc, as well as his sustained contribution to the real estate industry internationally over a period spanning more than 40 years. In 1989 the Warsaw Corporate Center was the first completed development in the region, and the successor company to Golub-Europe, GE Capital Golub Europe, has since conducted more than $400 million of transactions in the region including the Warsaw Financial Center, The Atrium building in St Petersburg, the Charles Square Center in Prague, and most recently the International Business Center in Warsaw – which was itself short-listed for the CEE Office Development of the Year award. On receiving the award, Mr Golub said: �śI am honored by this unexpected recognition for work that I truly enjoy. Working in Central and Eastern Europe has been one of the most challenging and rewarding undertakings of my career. I am proud of our many successful relationships and projects and look forward to our company playing an ongoing role in the economic development in this region.”

 

But it was AIG/Lincoln Eastern Europe that stole the show. After snatching up two awards for CEE Office Development of the Year (The Park, Prague) and CEE Developer of the Year, the company then went on to win both CEE Outstanding Development of the Year and CEE Outstanding Company of the Year Grand Awards, given to the best-of-the-best in all five project awards and six company awards on offer. The Quality Awards Jury, a cast of 15 senior executives from major real estate companies active in the region, were almost unanimous on both counts. Brian Patterson, AIG/Lincoln Eastern Europe Managing Director (Poland & Russia), who received the awards on behalf of the company, said: �śAll of us on the AIG/Lincoln Eastern Europe team in each market appreciate the recognition we have received for our collective achievements in Central Europe.  It has been and will continue to be an adventure.” The fourth Grand Award for the CEE Industry Professional of the Year was given to Paweł Dębowski, head of real estate and construction at CMS Cameron McKenna, itself a hot contender to lift the CEE Commercial Services Company of the Year award which was eventually scooped up by leading real estate professional services company EC Harris. Ben Bannatyne, Managing Director for Jones Lang LaSalle was also delighted with the award for CEE Real Estate Agency of the Year, saying: "Having been operational in C&EE since 1992, we are delighted to have received the first CEE Real Estate Quality Award for the best agency… a big thank you to all our clients and the 120 staff that have contributed to our success."

 

Another highlight of the evening was a prize draw raising funds for the Towarzystwo Przyjacioł Dzieci (Friend of the Children) charity, which raised over €8,000 – including a pledge of €5,000 from AIG/Lincoln Europe towards the building of a purpose-built emergency bed hostel, and the auction of his prize of a mountain bike won by Jason Sharman (King Sturge) which was bought by Mike Packham of GE Capital Golub, raising an additional  €2,200  The event was sponsored by a host of companies and media active in the real estate industry in the region, including the world’s leading business newspaper, the Financial Times.
